Information for Clients

We support our clients by meeting them where they are at.

Whether you are brand new to movement, a seasoned gym-goer, or something in between, we will support and guide you to reach your movement goals.

  • As Exercise Physiologists we use movement and exercise to help people with chronic and complex conditions, diseases, injuries, disabilities, and those who need some guidance and support when it comes to movement. We help to facilitate movement and physical activity when this is difficult to fit into your life, and work hard to provide a safe(r) space for people who have had unpleasant experiences in the health and fitness industry.

Move to Live welcomes people seeking support with any aspect of their movement or physical activity. We provide guidance for those experiencing challenges with movement, whether this be at work, as part of their daily life, or during their chosen sport and significant activities.

Our Exercise Physiologists strive to meet you where you are at, not some mythical place where you ‘should’ be. We work collaboratively with you to create a plan that will work for your body, your brain, and your life to progress you towards your movement goals.

  • Move to Live provides support and guidance for those experiencing challenges with movement and physical activity. Our Exercise Physiologists tailor their support to suit your needs, including:

    • Using movement to improve your functional capacity with activities such as walking, transfers, stairs, and other difficult tasks.

    • Discovering how to move your body in ways which work with your disability and accessibility requirements.

    • Using movement to support and manage your health conditions and any co-occurring challenges that you may be experiencing.

    • Assisting with returning to work / sport / daily activities after injury through rehabilitation.

    • Understanding more about your health circumstances and how movement can help you.

    • Improving your relationship with movement and physical activity.

    • Learning how to integrate movement safely and confidently into your life.

    • Or … helping you when you are just not sure where to start.

We are here to support you in whatever way you need and to meet you wherever you are at with movement and your health.

  • Move to Live offers a variety of services to help support our clients on their movement journeys.

Everyone starts off with an Initial Assessment with one of our Exercise Physiologists where we collaboratively decide which of our services, or a combination thereof, will be suited for you.

These include Individual Movement Sessions, Group Classes, Home Exercise Programs, Solo Time, Hydrotherapy, Home Visits, and Telehealth Services.

More details on our available services can be found here.

What to expect on your first visit to Move to Live

Everyone who attends Move to Live undertakes an Initial Assessment with one of our delightful Exercise Physiologists.

This first appointment tends to go for an hour and involves a large amount of talking so you and your Exercise Physiologist can get to know each other. You will discuss your health concerns, injuries, disabilities, and movement challenges, and will work collaboratively to create a plan to help you achieve your movement goals.

Your session may also involve you demonstrating any exercises or movements you are currently undertaking, or may involve a physical assessment for us to see where you are at with your movement abilities. You do not need to wear any specialised clothing, just whatever is comfortable. It is a good idea to bring with you any scans, reports, list of medications or anything you think the Exercise Physiologist will find useful.

If you feel that you need more information before attending Move to Live, please see the more detailed descriptions below.

  • Once you have booked in for your Initial Assessment either by phone or email, you will receive a text message reminder two days before your appointment.

Your Initial Assessment will be held at The Clinic at 58 Cliff Ave on the South side of the street, which has a ramp for access. Please see our Access and Sensory Details page for more details on The Clinic.

  • You will enter our waiting area and be greeted by a member of the Move to Live staff. You will be provided with a Client Intake Form which is laminated for you or your support person to fill out to the best of your ability, and a copy of our policies for you to read and sign. If you have any questions or concerns you are welcome to ask our friendly staff. There are chairs and a couch for you to sit on, or you are welcome to stand and use the desk.

If it would make you feel more comfortable having a tour of the Move to Live Clinic to orientate yourself before beginning the consult, please ask your Exercise Physiologist and they will be happy to show you around.

Your Exercise Physiologist will introduce themselves to you and invite you to one of our two consult rooms. Here you can sit, stand, or lie down in a way that is most comfortable for you, and can ask our staff for more seating accommodations if required. We also have fidgets on the desk, tissues available, can dim the lights, and are happy to get you a glass of water if you need.

If it would make you feel more comfortable having a tour of the Move to Live Clinic to orientate yourself before beginning the appointment, please ask your Exercise Physiologist and they will be happy to show you around.

  • Now you are all prepared and comfortable, we will begin the appointment. Generally, your Exercise Physiologist will ask if you know what we do and will take the time to explain how we can help and answer any questions you might have.

You and your Exercise Physiologist will discuss your health concerns, injuries, disabilities, and movement challenges and work collaboratively to create a plan to help you achieve your movement goals.

Your session may also involve you demonstrating any current movements or exercises you are undertaking as part of your training, or your Exercise Physiologist undertaking a physical assessment of your current abilities.

Your physical assessment does not require you to remove any clothes (except perhaps a bulky jacket or scarf), you do not have to do anything you are not comfortable with, and your Exercise Physiologist will explain what is involved before starting. Generally we will look at how you can move your limbs, how you can undertake simple tasks or things that are difficult for you, ask you about pain levels, and check your strength and coordination.

As part of your appointment you may also be provided with some movements to undertake outside of the clinic. These can be written down, we can do a voice recording, or you can film us demonstrating the exercises on your phone.

  • At the end of the appointment your Exercise Physiologist will ask you if you have any further questions or anything else they can do to assist you. You will discuss when your next appointment will be and will either book this in when you are in the consult room or when you return to the waiting room. We can write down your appointment on a card so you don’t forget. Your Exercise Physiologist may give you a tour of the movement space if you have not already had one and answer any further questions.

When you return to the waiting room a member of the Move to Live staff will take any payment that is required and follow up anything else that needs to be completed before you leave.

We look forward to seeing you next time!
